We welcome guest speakers to our meetings who are experts in various aspects of quilting—from fabrics and threads to techniques, patterns, and tools. These lectures often include trunk shows, where the speaker shares the stories behind their collection of quilts.
Our guild prides itself on learning from each other. We hold member-lead workshops to work on projects together. Example workshops that we've held in the past include learning techniques for specific quilt and table running patterns, pop-up baskets, jelly roll rugs, and travel iron caddies.
Being a member of the LeTort Quilters offers many rewarding experiences, one of the most fulfilling being the chance to contribute comfort quilts to local charities.
A fiddle quilt is a small blanket or mat that provides tactile stimulation for people with dementia, autism, or developmental challenges. Members make and donate fiddle quilts to help keep people's hands busy and relieve stress.
Members collect fabric and batting scraps throughout the year, repurposing them to create cozy pet beds for dogs and cats in need. This effort not only reduces waste but also provides comfort to animals waiting for their forever homes.
With Quilt challenges, members are given a set of 'rules' to follow, such as specific colors, patterns, or themes. It’s always exciting to see how creatively our members interpret these guidelines, turning them into unique and imaginative quilts.
Each year, the president selects a theme and blocks for our Block of the Month (BOM) program, with one or two patterns featured in the newsletter each month. Participants share their completed quilt tops in June, showcasing the unique and wonderful results.
The guild hosts semi-annual retreats, offering dedicated time and space to work on quilting projects and enjoy time with fellow members. Bring your own projects and supplies, and get advice or support from quilters of all skill levels.
Members gather several times a year for Service Days, where we spend a few hours working together sewing or creating kits for service projects. It's a great opportunity to work meet others and make a difference in the Carlisle community.
The auction is similar to a giant yard sale. Items are donated by members...anything goes. Expect a lot of great quilting items, but there are non-quilt related items too. The money raised goes to the guild's education fund.
Our monthly newsletter, "Meanderings," includes details on upcoming events, reminders, meeting minutes, and other useful guild information. Members are encouraged submit articles to letortquilters@gmail.com by the 23rd of each month to be included in the following issue.
